Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park. 

On the first day of your 6 Days Virunga and Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking, a representative of our tour company will meet you and welcome you to the country. They will also brief you on your 6 Days Virunga and Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking. From Kigali City, your guide will transfer you to Goma and lead you to the Grande Barrier for check-in and purchasing of permits for the activities in the park. The park officials will pick you up and take you to Kibumba Tented Camp, which is close to the trailhead of Nyiragongo Volcano, for lunch, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga national park.

On day two of your 6-day Virunga and Volcanoes gorilla trek, you will report to Bukima post after an early-morning breakfast to take part in the briefing and register for the trek with your passports and your gorilla trekking permit. You will also attend a briefing on gorilla trekking in Virunga where you will learn the guidelines to abide by both during the activity and when you interact with the gorillas. After the briefing, you will subsequently travel to the forest to engage in gorilla trekking.  You will encounter a variety sights of wildlife during the activity, including several bird species, primates, and spectacular primate safaris in the Virunga National Park. After your safari, you will take pictures of the primates and return to your lodge for a late lunch, a leisurely dinner, and the night. When you get to the Congo gorilla families, you will have amazing experiences with the primates by observing their behavior in the park, such as their feeding patterns, their grooming patterns, and how they coexist with one another.

Day 3: Mount Nyiragongo hike.

After an early breakfast on day three of your 6-day trek through the Virunga and volcanoes, you will be transported to the Bukima area of the park, where you can prepare for the climb Nyiragongo trip by taking part in the hike’s briefing session. After the session, you will travel to one of the most active volcanoes in the world to observe the effects of volcanic eruption on the surrounding areas in the park. As you hike the slopes in the regenerating forests, you will have the opportunity to see a variety of bird species, so don’t forget to pack your binoculars to see the amazing species. You will spend the night at the summit, watch the sun set, and get ready for the mountain to erupt with the largest lava lake in the world, which will be an incredible experience. For a fantastic experience in the park, you will witness lava boiling and rising beneath the earth’s crust and earth quakes rumbling beneath the crust. With your wild dinner at the summit, you will also have one of the most fulfilling Congo safaris in Virunga National Park.

Mount Nyiragongo Hike

Day 4: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and Transfer to Ruhengeri.

After an early morning breakfast on the fourth day of your 6-day safari to the Virunga and the volcanoes, you will descend Mount Nyiragongo after a night of rewarding experiences at the summit with breathtaking views of the lava lake. Then, you will travel to Ruhengeri, the location of the Volcanoes National Park, where you will make a transfer to a hotel close to the park for lunch and refreshments. You can take part in community walks in the evening, where you’ll have fantastic experiences learning about the local communities’ cultures through traditional dancing and dishes made by the residents while they’re amused. You will return to your hotel for dinner and the night in the evening.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park.

On 5^th day of your 6-day Virunga and Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking Safari, after an early breakfast at your hotel and with your packed lunch, your guide will transfer you to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters where you go through the briefing session about the Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Guidelines. Afterwards, you will go in jungles to search for gorillas, the activity takes 30 minutes to 6 hours. As you will be hiking the various Virunga Mountains to get to the gorillas. After finding the mountain gorillas you will be given one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas while watching them play, feed, groom and others. After the activity you go back to the starting point to get the gorilla trekking certificates for taking part in the activity.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali.

After an early breakfast on day six of your Virunga and Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking trip, your guide will pick you up and drive you back to Kigali. During the drive, you will have a stopover in Gisenyi where you can see Lake Kivu and engage in activities like birding, nature walks where you can see how the locals interact with the lake, such as how they fish in the lake, and other interesting activities. You will also get to see a number of fish stalls from which you can buy fish. Your guide will drop you off at a place of your choice in Kigali city after lunch, marking the conclusion of your six-day Virunga and Volcanoes Gorilla Trekking. As an alternative, you can sign up for a Kigali city tour, which includes stops at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum, the largest market in Rwanda, and the Kimironko Market. After your safari, you will be dropped off at the location of your choice in Kigali City or the Kigali International Airport.
